Mr. Harlan H. Dufer of Antioch

Harlan H. Dufer, 94, of Antioch, Illinois. Harlan was born in Elgin and spent his youth living mainly between Chicago during the school year and summers on the family farm in the Elgin area. He joined the Navy after high school during WWII. He was training to be deployed when the Japanese theater and WWII ended. He was particularly proud of having completed a solo flight in a biplane during this time. Harlan was able to use the GI bill to attend the University of Illinois and received a degree in Architecture. He worked the majority of his career for the Army Corps of Engineers. He designed a number of post offices as well as the Starved Rock visitor center. He and his family had 2 tours of duty in Frankfurt, Germany during his time with the Corps. He lived in Park Ridge, Winnetka, and Germany with his family until he retired and was divorced in the early 80’s. He moved to Indialantic, Fl where many of his siblings and family lived. His home was across street from Atlantic Ocean and he enjoyed taking long walks on the beach there. Harlan eventually returned back to Illinois in 2011 to be near his children, where he lived in Antioch until his death. He was an avid reader of books, magazines, and newspapers. Politics, history, sports, and mysteries were some of his favorite topics. He was an avid movie and TV buff and loved the “old classic” movies. As a hobby, he created an extensive library of recorded movies. Genealogy and family history were very important to him and his efforts provide a detailed history of ancestors and collection of photos for future generations to cherish. He was an avid sports fan. He closely followed the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Illini team sports. We’re so happy he was able to see the Chicago Cubs finally win the World Series! Loving father of Karl (Janelle) Dufer, Rolf (Amy) Dufer, Karen (Bill) Harnly, Lauren (Todd) Porstner and Katherine Dufer; cherished grandfather of Stephanie Stimson, Jacqueline (Chris) Thomas, Brittany Dufer, Kelcey (Darnell) Lewis-Russell, Sarah Stimson, Douglas Landgraf JR, Annie Landgraf, Emma Dufer, Grace Landgraf, Ava Dufer, William Dufer, Todd Porstner Jr., Madison Dufer; beloved great grandfather Brayden Lepkowski, Jennessa East, Paxton Thomas and Adonis Lewis-Russell; fond brother of Alice Orvis, William Highline, the late Ronald Highline and the late Lois Schranz. Visitation will be Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 9:00 A.M. till time of service at 11:00 A.M. at Morizzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2550 West Hassell Road, (Northeast corner at Barrington Road), Hoffman Estates, Illinois 60169. Interment to follow at Ontarioville Cemetery in Hanover Park.
