Anthony Morizzo, killed in action , July 15, 1948, St. Lo, France, late of 2450 Lexington street, son of the late Michael and Philomena, brother of Savino Morizzo and Daniel Morizzo. Killed in Action; WWII Veteran; Silver Star Citation and Purple Heart Recipient The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Anthony E. Morizzo (ASN: 36685330), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 35th Infantry Division, in action in, Normandy, France, on 11th of July, 1944. When his unit was pinned down by heavy concentrations of enemy fire, Private Anthony E. Morizzo, a rifleman, voluntarily attached himself to a machine gun squad of which only one member was then surviving. Acting as ammunition bearer and assisting gunner, Private Anthony E. Morizzo remained at his gun to cover the successful withdrawal of his unit. He was killed in action four days later while leading an attack on strong enemy positions. The gallant action of Private Anthony E. Morizzo, his devotion to duty and tenacity of purpose, reflect high credit upon his character as a soldier and upon the military service. Interment at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Hillside, Illinois, with Military honors by Sabatino Post, # 1029.
