Frank H. “Bud” Paschen Beloved husband of Dianne M. Paschen, nee Tieken; loving father of Debora, Jeanne (David), Mary, Frank Henry (Joanne), Tony (Kari), Paul (Anne), Elisabeth (John), Daniel (Kauren) and the late Sarah; cherished grandfather of Lynn, Eric, Samantha, Maggie, Ashley, Eden, Tanner, Chelsea, Frank, Emme, Mazlin, Jordan, Madison, Nathan, Ryan, Jamie, Tommy, Joey, Alexandria, Matthew, Judah and JoyRose; great grandfather of Brooke, Isabella and Lillian Rose; devoted brother of LaVerne (Walker) Finney and the late Harry Jay Paschen; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Bud Paschen was a fourth generation contractor who continued his family’s legacy of building and rebuilding Chicago dating back to the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. He was founder, chairman and the driving force behind F.H. Paschen, S. N. Nielsen and its associated companies. He also served as the companies’ Chairman of the Board. Bud got his start in construction as a teen, when he joined the family business as a laborer for Paschen Contractors. He continued to work for the firm as an estimator through college and graduated with a degree in civil engineering from Northwestern University in 1959. Bud helped build the company into a thriving firm, which became one of the largest construction companies in Chicago. The company was responsible for countless projects in the city and built or worked on landmark structures such as McCormick Place and the IBM Building. Bud ventured out on his own in 1975, founding his own company which performs primarily remodeling and rehabilitation work in the Chicago area. From a small beginning, with great foresight for emerging markets, and through the acquisition of both S.N. Nielsen Company and Paschen Contractors, Inc., Bud built his company into a multimillion dollar enterprise, which now performs work in 25 states, and completes projects in commercial, industrial, and civil industries including rail, airport and institutional fields. Presently, F. H. Paschen, S.N. Nielsen employs thousands of workers per year, including all phases of the construction industry. One of Bud’s keys to great success was his innate ability to assess future opportunities and to make the correct choices when building on those opportunities. Bud’s talents involved his great foresight, exceptional entrepreneurial skills and his ability to surround himself with outstanding talent and a dedicated staff. He kept his finger on the pulse of the company’s every operation, yet allowed key trusted individuals to develop sound ideas. In addition to having built a successful company, Bud found time to give back to the community in such ways as supporting the Chicago Public Schools by being principal for a day and adopting schools which need added support, such as Howland School and the Ace Technical Charter School.
