Gerard "Gerry" Degnan, 71, of Glenview, Illinois. Loving husband of Melody Degnan, nee Kas; devoted father of Tim (Melissa) Degnan, Brian (Nicole) Degnan and Elizabeth (Franco) Soma; cherished grandfather of Zoe, Stella, Anthony, Sophia and Luca; beloved brother of Thomas (Deborah) Degnan, Mary Ellen (Tom) Lenehan, the late Tony (the late Joyce) Degnan, the late Megan (James) Feeney and the late Stephen Degnan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Anne Degnan. A native of Worcester, Massachusetts, Gerry was a proud alum of St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury and Loyola University Chicago. It was there, while working as a manager on the basketball team, that he met the love of his life, Melody. He spent over 40 years in the agribusiness industry, forging lifelong friendships. Gerry could brighten any room without overpowering it, flashing his vibrant smile and displaying his infectious, whole-body laugh. He was always quick with a joke – likely one he’d told you before – and was always in the mood for a conversation. He never met a stranger and could make friends anywhere. Gerry never hid his affection and was fiercely proud of those he loved, of whom there were many, including his siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families. Gerry made us feel special, and he made our lives fun. Visitation Sunday, August 1 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Morizzo Funeral Home, 2550 West Hassell Road, Hoffman Estates, IL 60169.
