Mr. Jose Gonzalez of Chicago

Jose (Papi) Gonzalez, 94, of Chicago, Illinois. In the early hours on November 5th, 2021 our father, Jose (Papi) Gonzalez, came to rest. Papi was born on December 11th, 1926 in The Barrio Palo Blancas, Corozal, Puerto Rico. After 27 years of island living Papi migrated to Chicago in 1953 to make a better life for himself and his family. Papi built a comfortable life for himself in Chicago however his biggest treasure were his children Jose Antonio, Francisco (Tito), Ruben, Timothy, Cerina, Ruben and Anel and nothing made him happier than his grandchildren. As we reflect on Papi’s nearly 95 years of life it is not difficult to see his legacy passed on to all of us. Papi was incredibly strong, mentally and physically. He always asked that we put forth the effort to care for ourselves. In some ways forced independence. Papi taught us this not in just his words but more importantly through his actions as he worked at Nabisco for 38 year. Needless to say you could always find cookies at home even well after he retired. He also taught us to take care of our own family’s and that it should always be our primary effort. Never would a conversation be had without him asking how everyone in the family was doing. This brought many of his philosophies however a quick reminder that he taught us the right way was enough to make him smile. And even though he taught us to be independent he never once closed his doors to us. Papi will be missed but he will never be forgotten. There is too much of him in those of us he’s left behind to ever truly forget him. Papi is not the first one to pass amongst our family. In the past few decades Papi watched as his parents, Manuel & Adela, pass. Many brothers and sisters as well. For many years Papi welcomed the idea that he would one day be reunited with them. Papi’s passing may be sad for us however may we find comfort in knowing that he is not alone and has made his way home to those he was so desperate to see again. Family and Friends will meet Sunday, November 14, 2021 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. and Monday, November 15, 2021 10:00 A.M. until time of funeral service 11:00 A.M. at Morizzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2550 West Hassell Road, (Northeast corner of Barrington Road), Hoffman Estates, IL. 60169.
