Mrs. Kathleen Hammond

Mrs. Kathleen Hammond, of Schaumburg, Illinois, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family. Born and raised in England, Kathleen remained a proud Brit throughout her life. In 1966, she and her beloved husband, Neville, made the courageous decision to begin a new chapter in the United States, first settling in Chicago before making their home in Schaumburg in 1971. It was there they raised their family, built lifelong friendships, and created a legacy that will continue for generations to come. Kathleen carried herself with elegance and grace, always impeccably dressed, yet was equally admired for her honesty—never afraid to tell it exactly as it was. She cherished life’s simple pleasures: sharing a lovely cup of tea and conversation, spending afternoons with her dear friends at the British Club, the Bingo Club, or catching up with the ladies at the hair salon. Wherever Kathleen went, she formed lasting friendships and left people smiling. Above all, Kathleen’s greatest joy was her family. She was the loving wife of the late Neville Hammond; cherished mother of Anita (Michael) Tillery and Suzanne (Alex) Malin; devoted grandmother of Courtney (Greg) Bornstein, Christopher (Erin) Tillery, Zoltan (Sarvin) Payerli, and Michael Payerli; beloved great-grandmother of Gregory, Michael, and Natalie Bornstein, and Everett and Emmy Tillery; proud step-grandmother of Lisa (Kendall) Hayden, Daniel (Heather) Tillery, and the late Nathan Tillery; adored step-great-grandmother of Leo Tillery and Landon Priest; cherished sister of Ann (Peter) Harris, Michael (the late Christina) Browse, and the late Harry Browse; and dear aunt to many loving nieces and nephews. Kathleen will be remembered for her strength, wit, warmth, and unmistakable English charm. She leaves behind a family that was the pride of her life and countless friends who will forever cherish her kindness, laughter, and steadfast spirit. Whether she was complimenting “a lovely cup of tea” or making sure dinner was served “piping hot,” Kathleen had a way of making life’s simplest moments feel special. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in every cup of tea shared, every story told, and every gathering filled with laughter.
