Mr. Kenneth John Ciosek Sr. of Hoffman Estates

Kenneth John Ciosek Sr., 86, of Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Kenneth John Ciosek, Sr. of Chicago, Illinois passed away February 18th, 2025. He was born June 17th, 1938 to Bruno and Anna, and became big brother to the late Nancy and James. Ken was raised in Chicago, graduating from Weber High School in 1957 where he was voted both senior Class President and Prom King. He was a standout athlete - playing three varsity sports - and earned a scholarship to play football at his beloved alma mater, Purdue University. After an injury ended his football days he was drafted into the Army. He was in the medical corps where he also played on the softball, basketball and volleyball teams. While stationed in St. Louis, he met and fell in love with his beloved Linda (Hundhausen). They married on June 12, 1965 in St. Louis. The couple soon moved to West Lafayette, Indiana where Ken finished his undergraduate studies. While in Indiana, the couple started their family, with the birth of their first child, Kenneth Jr. (married to Kate Shaughnessy; daughter Julia). Upon graduating, Ken was offered a job back in Illinois with School District 54 to teach math at the Jr. high school level. The family moved to Hoffman Estates, Illinois where sons Mark (married to Anne; son Sam) and Robert (married to Lisa; sons Danny and Ryan, daughter Maddie) were born. Ken began taking graduate level classes at Northern Illinois University where he earned his Masters Degree in Educational Administration. In 1980, Ken was named as Principal of newly constructed Margaret Mead Jr. High School, where he worked until his retirement in 1993. While raising three boys, Ken took on many roles. He coached little league baseball, was Cub Scout pack leader, and refereed church league basketball. Ken always had an interest in learning and education, being an avid reader. He enjoyed watching Jeopardy! and could have easily done well on the show. Ken also loved his friends, the Cubs, all things Purdue and having a good time. Ken loved to play golf, bridge and the guitar. He played in the same golf league for over 55 years. He was often seen “holding court” to an audience that would listen to his many funny stories. Most of all, Ken was a proud husband, parent and grandfather. He will be missed. There will be a visitation/memorial service from 9:30-11:30 Sunday, March 16, 2025 (with a short service at 10:30) at Morizzo Funeral Home, 2550 Hassell Road in Hoffman Estates followed by a 12:00-2:30 Celebration of Life at Chandlers, 401 N. Roselle in Schaumburg, IL.
