Mrs. Mary Louise Nicol of Barrington

Mary Louise Nicol, nee Miller, lived a full life defined by her friendships, positive attitude, and devotion to family. Mary will be remembered for her kind heart and caring spirit. She passed away on June 12, 2013 after a 4 year battle with thymic carcinoma. Mary fought the disease with tremendous bravery, positive attitude, and never once complained of its side effects. Mary was born in Plainfield, NJ, on April 22, 1946, and lived in New Jersey and Missouri before her family moved to Glenview, IL in 1959. She graduated from Glenbrook North High School in 1964. She then attended the University of Wisconsin -Whitewater for 2 years before becoming a very passionate flight attendant with American Airlines. Mary retired from American Airlines Dec. 1, 2012 after 45 years of dedicated service. Mary had been a resident of Lake Barrington, IL, since 1976. Prior to her diagnosis, Mary was involved with many charitable causes and was a significant team leader in the Barrington Relay for Life. Mary is survived by her husband John Nicol, her two children Mary Michelle Nicol and Sean Nicol, her two sisters, Martha (the late Larry) Barker and Nancy (Paul) Hunter and her sister-in-law Patricia (Dr. William) Abell. Visitation at Saint Michael’s Episcopal Church, 647 Dundee Ave, Barrington from 1:00-2:00 pm on Saturday, June 15. Service at 2:00 pm with a reception at St. Michael’s following immediately after.
