Dr. Charles Richard "Charlie" Martinez of Barrington

June 7, 1944 - January 28, 2022

Dr. Charles Richard "Charlie" Martinez, 77, of Barrington, Illinois. Charlie was born on June 7, 1944 in San Pedro California. Shortly after, his family moved back to Southwest Colorado, Del Norte and Crede areas, where he spent most of his young life. Once school age he moved to the Denver suburb of Wheat Ridge, graduating from Wheat Ridge High School in 1962. After graduation he attended University of Utah, then transferred to Colorado State University until 1965. Charlie came to Chicago in 1965 and attended Northwestern University Dental School, graduating in 1969. Upon graduation he served as a Navy Lieutenant in United States Public Health Service. Once his military service was complete Charlie returned to Northwestern University, earning his Master's degree and completing his residency in Pediatric Dentistry at Children's Memorial Hospital. Charlie was an Assistant Professor at Northwestern University Dental School from 1973-1976 and was Chairman of Undergraduate Pediatric Dentistry. While practicing full time at Rush Medical Center Dental Group, in 1977 he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. In 1995 Charlie began his studies in Osteopathic and Homeopathic Dentistry, and in 2001 became a Diplomate of the National Board of Homeopathy in Dentistry. Charlie loved being a dentist, practicing for over 50 years. Charlie is the loving husband of Sharon Martinez, nee Fitzpatrick; devoted father of Tony Martinez, Lauren (Aaron Sosebee) Martinez, Nicholas (Kathryn) Martinez and Michael Martinez; cherished grandfather of Althea Sosebee, and twin grandsons Max and Charlie Martinez. He was preceded in death by his father Max Martinez Jr., mother Lucille Martinez, nee Espinosa, and sister Elizabeth Martinez. Family and friends will meet on Wednesday, February 9th at St. Anne Church, 120 Ela St, Barrington, IL for a visitation from 9:30 A.M. till time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M.
