Mr. Jose A. Gamez of Schaumburg

December 14, 1954 - January 21, 2022

Jose A. Gamez, 67, of Schaumburg, Illinois: passed away on January 21, 2022 in the home he built in Schaumburg, Illinois after a long, valiant battle with multiple myeloma and pancreatic cancer with his devoted wife Ana and three children, Luis, Alfredo, and Deliana lovingly by his side. Jose was the loving husband of Ana Reyes-Gamez; devoted father of Luis Reyes, Alfredo Gamez, and Deliana (Greg) Zeman; his brothers Oscar (Brandie) Martinez, Nelson (Ari) Gamez, and sister Ana (Eduardo) Martinez; his in-laws Carmen (Jorge) Cobo and Maria (Vince) Munyon; numerous nieces Roxy, Andrea, Nidia, Elia, Fallon, and Erin and nephews Rodrigo (Hershey), Eddie, Mauricio (Camilla), Alex (Kennedy), and Oscar and fond grand-paw of Benji and Henry. Jose was born in 1954 in La Libertad, El Salvador. Jose learned to survive and thrive among the ocean and mountains of his own backyard. With immense courage, he left everything he had known the first 27 years of his life, to begin from scratch in another country for the sake of his life and future. In 1982, he met his beautiful wife Ana and his son Luis, in the city of Chicago where he took them out on their first date to see E.T. Ana and Jose fell in love and began their adventure together with their son, Luis. In 1990 and 1991 they welcomed their son and daughter, Alfredo and Deliana, and Luis became a big brother. Jose and his loving family moved to Schaumburg, Illinois where he called home for the remainder of his beautiful life. Jose was a dedicated father who always made sure his wife and kids got to experience life to its fullest. Jose and his family traveled the world. Visiting five of the seven continents and countless countries, Jose was able to provide a life for his family that they’ll always cherish and be grateful for. Jose was a universal handy man, the family mechanic, and a Jack of All Trades. He never missed a day of work or failed to provide. Jose was a kind, honest, and selfless man with complete disinterest in ego and materialism. He had a life-long love for learning. He had a deep love for the ocean and deep respect for the Earth and animals. He could fix and build anything, no feat was too hard or unattainable. He accepted everyone with a refusal to judge or dismiss anyone. He enjoyed helping people and telling funny stories. His heart and laugh were contagious. Jose loved music and dancing. He was the life of the party, yet never had a drink. Jose always remained calm and put everyone at ease. He was the protector of the family and kept everyone safe. Jose has earned eternal rest. Now it is our turn to try and be worthy of his sacrifices by following his example. To always put family first, to always be kind, to communicate with poise and grace, and to always help anyone in need. Jose is loved and will be missed terribly by all of the lives he’s impacted. His legacy will live on forever and always through the people who love him most.
