Please note that all visitors are required to wear a mask when entering the funeral home** Lonell Jones was born on July 2,1931 to the union of Jim Larry and Sonett Rossen in Louin, Mississippi. Where she accepted Christ at an early age and attended Warren Hill Methodist Church. Lonell moved to Chicago at the age of 17. She was proud to be an independent, self-sufficient woman ready to take on new experiences. Initially, she worked as a domestic worker and a medical assistant until she took a risk and became a mail clerk at Continental Bank. This risk paid off as she transitioned into the best professional years of career. Her time at Continental Bank would turn out to be a period of her life that she would forever cherish. She loved the business world and working with various departments until she eventually retired. During her time in Chicago, she met her husband, Ervin Jones. They shared a love for Mississippi and the Mississippi communities they both grew up in. During their time together, they were able to realize their dreams of home ownership as they eventually owned multiple properties. They developed a significant relationship with the church and made great friends as they hoped they would during their lives together. Lonell was known for wonderful skills in cooking, especially baking. She loved to experiment with new recipes and creating her own. Aside from her culinary skills she loved sewing and quilting. Being the thrifty person, she was, she was often seen designing quilts from scrap materials, sewing them all by hand. Lonell also enjoyed gardening. She derived much pleasure from growing flowers, plants, and vegetables. Tending the yard and garden provided an antidote to relaxing after a hard day’s work. In addition to these skills, she was a great collector of Bibles and Bible literature of all sorts. Another favorite pastime was listening to music of all sorts, her favorite being black gospel singing. Her house was never left bare of peanuts, watermelon and pecans. After the passing of Ervin, Lonell continued her devotion to God by attending True Light Baptist Church, True Foundation MB Church and then Great Commission Baptist Church. Devoted to counseling through the word of Christ, Lonell will forever have a legacy of giving back to her family, friends and neighbors as she proudly guided many through the road bumps of life. She loved all of God’s people and consistently strived to serve him in all aspects of her life. Lonell was preceded in death by her parents, Jim Larry and Sonett Larry (Rossen), Husband Ervin Jones, two sisters: Jenell and Annie J., and brother Martin.
