Mr. Robert Allen Leibold of Bartlett
June 12, 1927 - December 17, 2019
Robert "Bob" Allen Leibold of Bartlett, IL, formerly of South Barrington, IL, passed away December 17, 2019. Bob was predeceased by Bernice Leibold, his adored wife of 69 years, by just three months. He cherished his children Karen (Steven Ratiner), Thomas (Julie DeLuca), Steven (Maria Gragasin-Leibold), Paula (James Raymond Kinney III), and thoroughly enjoyed being Pop-Pop to Adam (Stephenie Harper), Christian, Sara, Lucas, JR, Amelia, Emily, and great-grandfather to George Harper. Bob was a friend to many. He is loved immensely and will be greatly missed. Bob was born in West Reading, PA in 1927 where he lived until joining the Navy after high school. He served in WWII as a Motor Machinist’s Mate Third Class Petty Officer on the Minesweeper YMS53 that included duty in the East China Sea and southern Formosa. Upon his safe return home he began working as a telephone lineman for Pennsylvania Bell. Bob met Bernice on a blind date and they married in 1950. Shortly thereafter, he made a career change and became a Claims Adjuster for American Casualty Company (CNA). Bob’s increasing responsibilities at American Casualty led his growing family on a journey through Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Boston, Los Angeles, and finally to the CNA headquarters in Chicago as Executive Vice President… settling in Naperville in 1971. In 1979 Bob left CNA for an opportunity to join Allstate Insurance as President and CEO of Northbrook Property and Casualty. This led to a move to South Barrington where they resided until 2014. Bob and Bernice loved spending time with family - hosting “June Days”, traveling extensively, golfing, fishing, dancing, enjoying friends, and cheering on the Chicago Bears. He was an avid photographer and took many memorable photographs during their travels. Bob took great pride in growing roses and all were able to enjoy his beautiful garden every summer. They also spent time at their lake home in Wautoma, WI, and the cold Chicago winters were spent in Palm Springs, CA. Bob and Bernice were founding members of the Holy Family Catholic Community in Inverness. Bob proudly served as Chair of the Pastoral Council, Chair of the Finance Committee, and Chair of the Cross of New Life project. The commissioning of the Cross of New Life was a major design and manufacturing accomplishment, and the amazing 2,000 pound work of art now graces the worship space of the parish. Family and friends will gather on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Community, 2515 West Palatine Road, Inverness. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm and the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2:00 pm. Entombment to follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine, IL. In lieu of flowers we ask that you consider a donation to Journeys / The Road Home journeystheroadhome.org a local organization that provides shelter and services to those who are homeless, and one which Bob actively supported. This Life Tributes page has been created to make it easy for Family and Friends to share memories, photos and videos.
