Mr. Walter John Miller of Bartlett

August 20, 1934 - March 7, 2021

Walter John Miller, 86, of Bartlett, Illinois. Walt served in the US Navy for 4 years on active duty and 4 years in the reserves. He flew blimps on the east coast and trained others to do the same. He enjoyed working at the base radio station during his time in the Navy, a hobby he carried over from his high school days. After the Navy, Walt worked for IBM. He first worked on timeclocks, then typewriters, and finally computers. He worked for IBM for 39 years, many of those taking the train from the suburbs to their office downtown. Walt briefly attended Purdue University, studying engineering. He loved to tinker with things. He was always figuring out ways to make things work better in his home, and he was always the “fix-it” guy, with broken toys and electronics making their way to his home shop for repair and restoration. Walt very much enjoyed the time spent with his kids doing Indian Princesses and then YUS girls with his daughters and then Cub Scouts with his son. He enjoyed camping and the community of these groups, creating friendships that outlasted the various organizations. In recent years, Walt made the Oaks of Bartlett his home. He enjoyed meeting new people and spending time getting to know them. Loving husband of the late Rosanne Miller (nee Marovich); beloved father of Desiree Janese Miller, Susan Joyce (Tom) O’Day and Peter John Miller; cherished grandfather of Samantha Janese Miller; devoted brother of the late Dorothy (the late William) Steube, the late Marilyn (the late James) Cummings; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 10th, 2021 from 9:00 A.M until time of service at 11:30. Interment at Bartlett Cemetery, Bartlett, Illinois with Navy Military Honors.
