JoAnn LaScola McCann April 27, 1960 — September 11, 2026 Beloved wife of Michael McCann. Cherished daughter of the late Salvatore and Dorothea (Raitano) LaScola and dear daughter-in-law of the late James and Joan (Rea) McCann. Loving mother of Brendan Kelly (Lauren) McCann and Liam Patrick (Maddy Finn) McCann. Devoted sister of Laurie (Daniel) Romanazzi; dear sister-in-law of James and Dennise McCann, Regina and Marten Ozog, Martin McCann, and Kelly and Michael Burton. Treasured aunt of Dina (Matthew) Fox, Danielle (Greg) DiMenna, Kristen McCann, Matthew McCann, Katherine (Jackson) Faut, Casey (Rachel) Ozog, Conor Ozog, Michaela Burton, and Claire Burton. Proud and adoring “Gramma J” to her beloved Gavin Michael. Cherished friend to many. JoAnn devoted 33 years to teaching in Evanston/Skokie School District 65 at Chute Middle School, where she shared her lifelong love of the French language and culture with generations of students. She also served for many years as chair or co-chair of the district’s Foreign Language Department. A true dog lover, JoAnn had a special place in her heart for her Kerry Blue Terriers, especially her beloved Murphy, who was never far from her side. Following her career in education, she brought her warmth and enthusiasm to Williams Sonoma, where she was able to share two more of her passions: cooking and home décor. Above all, JoAnn was devoted to her family, who always came first. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome in her home and loved nothing more than bringing family and friends together. She was a wonderful hostess, a keeper of family traditions, and someone who found special joy in the holidays—especially Christmas. Her generosity extended well beyond her own home; when a friend or family member was ill, they could often count on a delivery of JoAnn’s famous Italian chicken soup. She cared for the people she loved in countless ways, both big and small, and those who knew her will forever remember the warmth, generosity, and love she brought into their lives. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 17, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Morizzo Family Funeral Home, 2550 Hassell Road, Hoffman Estates, IL 60169. Family and friends will gather Friday, September 18, at 9:00 a.m. at Morizzo Family Funeral Home for prayers before proceeding to St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 Ela Street, Barrington, IL 60010, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at Our Lady of the Angels Mausoleum at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, 1185 West Algonquin Road, Palatine, IL 60067. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in JoAnn’s name may be made to the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement , St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , or the Garrido Stray Rescue Foundation all three organizations whose missions were especially meaningful to her.
