Ms. Lucy Ann Werner

Lucy Ann Werner was my aunt, a loving and caring presence in the lives of her family across the country. She passed suddenly August 6th 2026 in Hanover Park. She was obsessed with anything related to Peanuts, which seemed only fitting since she was named after the character Lucy. For the last twenty years of her life, Lucy dedicated herself to caring for her parents as they grew older and eventually passed away. Lucy was very health-conscious. She loved canned herring and believed everyone should eat it, though she would quickly remind you not to forget to rinse off the extra salt. She operated on what the family affectionately called "Lucy Time." She was notoriously late to just about everything, which is part of why it feels so strange that she left us so quickly at the age of 69. It might be the first time she was ever early. Lucy loved documenting family gatherings. She was always recording videos and taking photographs. The only times you would see her without a camera were when the batteries had died. Two of my favorite memories of Lucy stand out. One was teaching her how to play Mario Kart, only to have both her and my Grandpa fall asleep while playing. The other was her hugs while we waited for my parents to pick up a rental car during a March visit to Chicago. As a five-year-old completely unprepared for the cold, those hugs meant everything. Earlier in life, Lucy worked as both a teacher and a FedEx employee. She enjoyed scuba diving with her brother, Stretch, entered her photographs in contests, and participated in several triathlons with him. In her community, Lucy was perhaps best known for helping her father, Richard Werner, record classical concerts throughout the Chicago area. Richard passed away in 2021, and It is especially heartbreaking that some of the photographs, videos, and concert recordings Lucy spent decades preserving were lost alongside her. Yet the true archive of her life was never stored on film or tape. It lives on in the family gatherings she documented, the stories she saved, and the people whose lives were touched by her care and devotion. Lucy is deeply missed by her two brothers and their wives, her niece and nephew, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her kindness, sense of humor, and the surviving photos and videos she left behind will continue to keep her memory alive.
