Mr. Richard W. Przekop of South Barrington

Richard Walter Przekop, aged 91, of South Barrington, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30 at the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights. Born May 28, 1934, in Hamtramck, Michigan, he was the son of Walter and Mary (Trojanowski) Przekop. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Leona Ruhlman and Dolores Truszkowski, and his first wife, Sandra Fricke. Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Judith (née Salem) of Johnstown, Pennsylvania; his sons Daniel (Deanna) of Northville, Michigan, and Richard (Jessica Ji) of New York City; grandchildren John (Natalie), Kara (Elise), Chelsea (Chris), Olive, Alex, and Aggie; great-grandchildren Jameson, Lily and Stella. A proud Navy veteran, Richard served as an Electronic Technician 3rd Class aboard the Destroyer Escort Ship DeHaven during the Korean War Conflict. His service allowed him to visit Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan, and Hawaii, experiences he cherished deeply, especially having grown up on a farm. He earned a degree in electrical engineering from Wayne State University in Detroit and worked 45 years in telecommunications. Richard was a man of diverse interests and talents for whom family always came first. He loved the sea, vacationing at the beach, cruises and adventure: canoe trips in Michigan, hot air balloon rides in France, cross country skiing in Michigan and many Boy Scout camping trips. He had a voracious love of reading, music, dancing, card playing and old movies; and was an avid Red Wings hockey fan. He was the star on his high school basketball team and continued his love of sports through bowling, golf and volunteering/spectating at his sons’ activities and sporting events. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at Morizzo Funeral Home, 2550 Hassell Road, Hoffman Estates. An additional viewing will take place on Tuesday, April 7, from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Holy Family Church, 2515 W. Palatine Road, Inverness. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 am.
